A jack-knifed semi truck caused two lanes on east-bound to I-94, at Belleville road, to be closed for more than several hours last Thursday.

According to a press release, at approximately 8:10 a.m. the Van Buren Township Fire Department responded to the 18-wheeler semi-truck which was leaking diesel fuel onto the roadway after it had jack-knifed because of wet road conditions. The semi was blocking the center and right lanes of I-94.
The driver, who was uninjured, punctured a hole in his hydraulic fluid tank causing less than 100 gallons to spill on the roadway, according to the press release.
The Fire Department, along with the Michigan State Police and Van Buren Police Traffic Services, shut down two lanes of east bound I-94, as well as the entrance ramp to I-94 from Southbound Belleville Road, while other fire department personnel and the Wayne County Road Commission contained the spill and cleaned up the roadway.
East-bound travel, as a result, was cut down to one lane. The two travel lanes were re-opened at 10:31 a.m. Captain Anthony Carver was the Incident Commander and was assisted by six other fire department personnel on scene.
While the Fire Department was handling the semi-trailer, crews were dispatched, at 9:11 a.m., to east-bound I-94 west of Haggerty Road for a single-vehicle crash where a compact car had traveled through the median from the west-bound lanes.
As crews were checking on the occupant, a three-vehicle collision occurred on the west-bound side of I-94.
Fire personnel, along with the Michigan State Police, shut down one travel lane while the hazards were secured during the moderate rain conditions.
One driver was transported to St. Joseph Mercy in Ann Arbor for injuries resulting from a driver side-impact collision.
Firefighter Angela Hayes served as Incident Commander and all units cleared at 9:44 AM. Utility 1 & Engine 2 responded to the call.
At approximately 4 p.m., the Fire Department was dispatched to Rawsonville and Martz Roads for a motor vehicle crash with injuries.
Arriving crews found a two vehicle rear-end collision blocking Rawsonville Road. Fire personnel, along with the Van Buren Police Traffic Services, directed traffic around the scene in heavy rain conditions.
One driver was transported to St. Joseph Mercy in Ann Arbor.
Captain Anthony Karver served as Incident Commander and was assisted by four other personnel.
