The Millage Proposal Building and Site Bond Proposition resolved that bonds of the school district designated as the 2009 School Building and Site Bonds (Unlimited Tax General Obligation) shall be issued.
The bonds in the aggregate principal amount are not to exceed $79,040,000 and will be issued for the purpose of paying the cost of the project, including the cost of the issuance of such bonds.
The bonds shall bear interest at a rate or rates to be determined upon sale thereof, but not to exceed six percent per annum, with an underwriter discount not to exceed one half percent.
Board member Martha Toth was told by interim Van Buren Public Schools Superintendent Larry Tabor that the 10-page document had to be read to the board in its entirety at the advice of the attorney helping oversee the contract.
Also at the meeting, the board okayed the Plante Moran CRESA (PMC) contract recommendation for the bonds.
"Anticipated project is approximately 48 months and includes the following; project planning/evaluation and programming, architect selection, design process, contractor selection, construction, move management, building commissioning and and project closeout," Plante and Moran CRESA CPA Greg VanKirk wrote in the proposal.
Other points included in Plante and Moran CRESA's
recommendation were that a single architect designs the facility, a single technology designer handles the design of technology and evaluations of solutions, the attendance at one VBPS board meeting per month to provide a project update and that the construction of facilities is handled by a single contractor.
Earlier at the meeting, Lead the Way Car recognition went to teacher Don Borgerding and students Dan Dakoske, Theron Howard and Gunnar Renier for their innovative vehicle design.
The team, in partnership with Tower Automotive, took second place for innovation for the actuators and remote control in their vehicle.
