After wrapping up what was billed as a rebuilding season with several medals, a fourth place finish in the Mega Blue and a season of experience for a number of names who had never been on a tennis court prior to this fall, head coach Derron Conn is both pleased and confident.

"I feel good," he said. "Honestly, with three quarters of the team brand new to the sport, it's not bad. We improved, and I'm optimistic about next year."
The Tigers (3-5-2 Mega Blue, 3-6-2 Overall) returned from the Mega Blue tournament on Tuesday with several medals.
Tommy Kozak nabbed a silver in two singles with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Crestwood; 6-1, 7-5 win over Carlson and 1-6, 5-7 loss to Garden City.
"We had to shoot him up to two singles this year and he did a good job," Conn said. "When I saw the draw for the tournament, I was pleased. Tommy comes to play duringtournaments, he steps it up a little more, but he ran into a Garden City guy who he had trouble with during the season."
Sophomores Jake Kasperski and Caleb Kennedy took the bronze in four doubles with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Ypsilanti and 6-0, 6-3 win over Lincoln Park.
"Those two getting third place on their first year out is pretty exciting," Conn said.
Senior Jay Webb also grabbed third place in four singles, receiving a walk-through against Crestwood and beating Carlson 6-4, 6-4.
"He has one of the best serves on the team, and he has used it to get several victories throughout the season," Conn said.
All of the doubles teams advanced past the first round and many of the same faces will be back next year, which has Conn optimistic about the team's future.
"It was nice to see," he said. "You have got to watch for Jon Carr and Jon Rietan next year. Those guys are the only flight I had with a winning record and they work well together. Ryan Fitzpatrick is also really learning the sport and may move up into singles play."
