Marching Tigers need help for upcoming year

PUBLISHED: August 28, 2008

It may be hard to believe but school is right around the corner and the Belleville Marching Tigers are readying themselves to hit their stride.

Their first show was the camp performance at 7:30 p.m. at Belleville High stadium after they departed for band camp on Aug. 18.

But the Belleville Band Boosters need parents, students and volunteers to get in on the action too.

In order to maintain the level of excellence for the Marching Tigers music program, each family of a participant in the band is required to volunteer at one University of Michigan football game, two University of Michigan basketball games and one or more additional events.

You do not have to be a member of a band member to volunteer though.

On Aug 30 students, parents and band boosters are needed to help with concessions as the University of Michigan Wolverines under new head coach Rich Rodriguez take on the Utah Utes at the Big House in Ann Arbor.

Volunteers also are needed for the Sept. 6 face off with MAC contenders Miami of Ohio and on Sept. 27 when the University of Wisconsin Badgers pose their annual threat to the Wolverines' Big Ten championship hopes.

Other home games include the University of Illinois on Oct. 4, the Toledo Rockets on Oct. 11 and state bragging rights are up for grabs on Oct. 25 when the Michigan State Spartans play their annual smash mouth game against the Wolverines.

The last chance to volunteer for the boosters at a Wolverine game is when Big Ten rivals the Northwestern Boilermakers bring their usual pass happy attack to Ann Arbor on Nov. 25.

The band boosters and volunteers also aid in University of Michigan basketball games.

These concessions earn over $20,000 for Belleville music program.

The work involves preparing and serving food such as Philly steak and cheese sandwiches, nachos and soft

Drinks or you may choose to be a cashier.

There are 20 positions available at the band camp performance to serve soda pop and pizza to students, sell 50/50 raffle tickets, shirt, picture and snack sales and aid with volunteer sign up sheets.

At Belleville Tiger home football games, the BHS Band Boosters need 20 positions per game to assist with

Uniform distribution and collection, field set up, 50/50 racket sale and shirt and picture sales, sign up volunteers and serve refreshments.

The band review alone will require 100 various positions.

The Bellville Band Boosters need 40 volunteers for the University of Michigan football and basketball games.

At 5:30 p.m. on Tues., Sept. 16, the Marching Tigers put on their annual Band Review at the BHS athletic field.

The Belleville High School Marching Tigers performances through September include Belleville High School home football games on Fri., Aug. 29, Fri., Sept. 12 and Fri., Sept 27.

If you'd like to volunteer e-mail bellevillebandboosters@yahoo.com., or sign up at any of the Band Boosters events or meetings.
