Open house festivities will include information on the Jazzercise program and a free workout. Admission is free to everyone, and participants should dress to exercise. Refreshments will also be served.
Everyone in attendance will be entered into a drawing for prizes and anyone joining on Saturday will receive 50 percent off the joining fee and 50 percent off the initial class package.
The 60-minute Jazzercise class includes a warm-up, high-energy aerobic routines, muscle-toning and cool-down stretch segment. Jazzercise combines elements of dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and more to create programs for people of every age and fitness level. Alternative formats include Jazzercise Lite, Jazzercise Personal Touch and Junior Jazzercise.

Belleville Lake reopens for swimming: The Wayne County Department of Public Health announced last Thursday it was lifting a ban on all swimming and recreational activities for the public bathing beach at Belleville Lake.
According to a press release, the latest surface water sample results taken by the Wayne County Department of Public Health meet Michigan Public Health Code standards for swimming and other recreational use involving body immersion.
"Public swimming and full body contact with the water at Belleville Lake is now safe to enjoy for swimming based on these findings," said Loretta V. Davis, Director/Health Officer, Wayne County Department of Public Health.
The lake had been closed since the last week in July when previous water samples were found to exceed the Michigan Public Health Code bathing beach water quality standard for E. coli bacteria.
Area teens can join Explorers Club: The Van Buren Police Explorers Post 1784 is a Boy Scouts of America sponsored organization focusing on introducing young adults to the career of law enforcement.
Requirements are as follows: Ages 14 to 21 years old, a serious interest in law enforcement as a career option and have and maintain a minimum of a "C" average in school and you must not have any criminal record or negative police contacts.
VBPS Kindergarten Round Up to begin: The first day of school for students in grades 1 through 12 will be on Tuesday, however, kindergarten students will not be starting on that day.
The schedule for incoming kindergartners will start with Round Up for kindergarten students and parents on Tuesday for those who enrolled after the March Round-Up.
Only children with last names that start with A through G will attend on Wednesday. Only children with last names that start with H through O will attend Sept. 4. Only children with last names that start with P through Z will attend Sept. 5. All kindergarten students will attend Sept. 8.
The Van Buren Public Schools believes that introducing children to school procedures in smaller groups affords teachers the opportunity to get to know their students better and increases the comfort level for our children and parents.
If you have any questions about how this will work or did not receive a letter this month call 697-9123 ext, 213.
New transportation system for Tyler GT program: The Van Buren Public Schools have provided transportation for the students in the Gifted and Talented program at Tyler for many years.
The transportation of the GT students has been combined with the middle school bus routes and then shuttled to Tyler for their program.
This shuttle system has worked well for everyone, but it has caused the students who utilize the shuttle to lose some of their instructional time in the program.
In an effort to eliminate the loss of instructional time, this coming school year VBPS will be piloting a new transportation program for the Tyler GT students.
They will still be providing transportation to the program, but the GT students that live outside of Tyler's transportation area will no longer be shuttled in with the middle school students.
Tyler GT students will be picked up at a designated stop location taken directly to Tyler School. Stop locations may be at a central location within certain areas (subdivisions, mobile home parks, apartment complexes) just as they were on the middle school routes.
Only eligible Tyler GT students will be provided transportation on this route.
Due to space availability, siblings of GT students who attend Tyler and who are not in the GT program will not be eligible for transportation on this bus route.
Parents of GT students who do not live within Tyler's transportation area have been contacted to verify if their student will be utilizing the transportation so their child may be assigned a stop location.
Any student that will be riding the bus should have received a postcard in late August with their designated stop location along with the stop times and route number.
As a reminder to kindergarten parents, district policy is that there must be an adult or older sibling present at the stop in the afternoon to get your child off the bus.
If you have any questions on this new pilot program in transportation and how it will work with your GT student, or to verify we have your child registered for transportation, please call the transportation office at 699-5100.
