Mayor makes new appointment to CSC: A longtime member of the Belleville Civil Service Commission recently announced his retirement, City Council members on Monday night OK'd a replacement and reappointed another to the commission.

Roy Acho was unanimously appointed to the CSC replacing Jay Hartford who had served on the commission for the past 26 years. He was honored for his contributions by city officials.
Acho owns the Five-Star Market and Benito's Pizza in Sumpter Township. He has served on the Strawberry Festival Board and Downtown Development Authority.
Water contract approved: After ironing out some kinks and estimating future costs, City Council approved a contract with Detroit Water System during Monday night's meeting.
City Attorney Tim Cronin recommended approval saying it was a good contract and several other Wayne County municipalities have already accepted it.
City officials hope to educate the public about using water during peak times, namely the morning and just after 5 p.m. The city's rate per one thousand cubic feet of water is based on the total amount of peak time and the less water that is used, then the lower the rate drops.
Through the education process, officials hope to drive down the rate by as much as 23 cents.
Van Buren seeks election inspectors: If you're interested in a unique opportunity to serve your community Van Buren Twp. is seeking voting inspectors.
The job entails interesting work, training provided, two to six work days per year and precinct inspectors are paid $125 per election day.
Qualifications for election inspectors are that you have to be a resident and registered voter in Wayne County, have sufficient education and clerical ability to perform the duties, complete an election inspector application.
Applications are always accepted at the Township Clerk's Office.

Mortgage foreclosure workshops set: In August, Wayne County will launch 12 free workshops to address soaring mortgage foreclosures.
These workshops are different because the Wayne County Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Program offers legal intervention, as well as counseling, education and other tools for saving a home at or in foreclosure.
Wayne County will also be linked to a powerful collaboration network of HUD- and MSHDA-certified counseling agencies to analyze cases and recommend viable options to avoid mortgage foreclosure.
The program is open to anyone. Refreshments will be available.
The first workshops are scheduled from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 5 at the WCCC Western Campus, 9555 Haggerty, Belleville, and Aug. 7 at the WCCC Eastern Campus at 5901 Connor in Detroit.
