Tyler PTO seeks donations for wall

PUBLISHED: April 22, 2004

Tyler Elementary School's Parent-Teacher Organization is hoping the community will help pay for a climbing wall for the school.

The school's physical education department has been working towards raising money to purchase a rock wall.

Rock walls are useful in the academic environment in many ways. They provide the physical challenge of a student's abilities, promote student's self-esteem and are a great deal of fun.

After reviewing rock walls from other companies, Tyler selected Everlast Climbing Industries to provide the rock wall.

Tyler chose to purchase the "traverse wall," which consists of walls that are 4 feet by 8 feet that will be along one side of the gymnasium. Mats will be placed underneath the rock wall, and the mats are locked over the rock wall when it is not in use.

The wall has a 3-foot red safety line. Students will be required to traverse the entire wall with their feet below this line before they are allowed to traverse higher.

The physical education department and students have been working to raise funds for the past two years by selling sweatshirts, T-shirts, snacks and various other products.

They have raised approximately $3,000 of the $10,000 total price. The staff hopes to have the rock wall installed before pupils return to school in the fall.

To make this happen, members of Tyler's PTO are asking the community to help in the funding of the rock wall.

*Contribute $1,000 or more and become a member of the Everest Club.

Everest Club members will have their names placed on individual wall-mounted plaques in the gymnasium; they will also be thanked in the school newspaper, which is distributed to all Tyler School families, as well as school district and community leaders; and a representative from your company will be asked to attend and assist with the dedication ceremony where media will also be invited.

*Contribute $500 to $1,000 and become a member of the Kilamanjaro Club.

Kilamanjaro Club members will have their names placed on individual wall-mounted plaques in the gymnasium, they will also be thanked in the school newspaper, and a representative from your company will be asked to attend and assist with the dedication ceremony.

*Contribute $100 to $500 and become a member of the Rocky Mountain Club.

Rocky Mountain Club members will have their names placed on the school's temporary wall of rocks: a measurement tool indicating the amount of money received for the rock wall. The company will be recognized in the school newspaper and at the dedication ceremony.

*Contribute $20 to $100 and become a member of the Mount Brighton Club.

Mount Brighton Club members will have their names placed on the school's temporary wall of rocks.

Tyler Elementary School is at 42200 Tyler Road. For more information, call 1-734-699-5818.
