Longtime National Strawberry Festival favorite Amanda Meredith performed at Sunday's open auditions, meaning the popular festival is just around the corner.
The annual National Strawberry Festival auditions were held on Sunday at UAW Local 735 in Canton.
This year's auditions brought out some old festival favorites like April Gibson, Vicki Talbot and Amanda Meredith. However they also brought out new talent to the union hall like Celestial Blues, who played an ambient, almost Celtic style of music.
Local nightclub favorites, Cohort, who often play at Mr. Bill's, and blues rockers, Insurrection, hit the stage and proved why they're popular local draws.
"We'll be playing at McNasty's in New Boston and we've been together for two years and rocking the tri-county area," Insurrection guitar slinger David Gerald said.
Insurrection will be at Sidelines in Westland on Apr. 8.
The Strait ran through an eclectic melody of their repertoire, running through Little Sister, Born to be Wild, Johnny B. Goode, Summer in the City, Brown Eyed Girl, Ramblin' Man, Jethro Tull's Hymn 43 and Knights in White Satin.
The bands have mixed and mingled players over the years in the Detroit music scene.
"Kirk Miller and I played together in the 1970s," said The Strait's John Piatak.
Other band members say they played with members of Insurrection and Funkee Station.
The Strait will be playing at Four Friends Bar and Grill on April 22.
Funkee Station made an incredible impression on the crowd and got everyone singing with a cover of Marvin Gaye's What's Going On.
Tony Thompson, a very smooth former R&B singer, made the transition to country and performed a moving version of Rascal Flats' Broken Road.
Other performers included Austin Scott, Leverage, Daniel Meredith, Marissa Autumn, Wildfire, Tabitha James, Jade Lester, Tracy and Robin, Alycia Ferrante, Jamie-Sue Seal, Company of Stranger, Cody Rodes, Cover Up, Shannon Salisbury, Redhill, Mike Beatty, Sway, Cole Meredith and the Horse Cave Trio.
Entertainment Director Carla Gibson will announce the performers for the Belleville National Strawberry Festival at a later date.
