Membership meeting and Science and Reading program
At 7 p.m. on Jan. 17 the Friends of the Fred C. Fischer Library will hold a general membership meeting with live music by the Belleville High School Band. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to 2 p.m. on Jan. 18.
Also on Jan. 17, the University of Michigan Science and Reading Program returns to the library. The three workshops featuring reading and hands on experiments will run from 3 to 4 pm Jan.17, Feb. 21 and March 21.
The workshops will include the following activities:
n Workshop 1: Look Up at the Sky will help children discover star maps and find the brightest stars on their own. Explore the different star pictures - or constellations - that people created long ago. Children will get a chance to make a sundial and see for themselves.
n Workshop 2: Planet Adventures helps children find out what makes something a planet and learn all about the planets in our Solar System.
Is there life beyond Earth? Find out by designing a life form that might survive on another planet. Pre-registration is required. Children younger than 6 years of age are not allowed in the program room..

Turn off the television this winter and get your kids active at the library with Family Story time held 6:30 p.m. Monday evenings through Feb. 9.
